Six teachers who exemplified teaching excellence received the five awards for 2015’s MacArthur and Josefina Reyes Excellence in Teaching Awards on Gawad Kolehiyo 2015 held last February 24. The different awards are named after the sponsors’ best teachers at Torres High School. Prof. Portia P. Padilla received the Esperanza Bautista Excellence in Teaching Award, Prof. Amelia C. Fajardo received the Milagros Ibe Excellence in Teaching Award, Prof. Maricris B. Acido received the Maxima Jorda-Velasquez Excellence in Teaching Award, Prof. Ana Margarita Salvador received the Paz Troncales-Malicdem Excellence in Teaching Award, while Prof. Charo Defeo-Baquial and Prof. Maria Hazelle Preclaro Ongtengco received the Gawad Kolehiyo on ICT Integration for their LTS course. The affair was graced by the sisters of the sponsors, Dr. Zenaida Delos Reyes-Jandi and Mrs. Leyte Delos Reyes-Madamba who awarded the recognized teachers along with Dr. Rosario Alonzo, the College Dean, and Dr. Leonor Diaz, Chair of the Gawad Kolehiyo 2015 Adhoc Awards Committee. The winners received bookstore gift certificates and a check of thirty thousand pesos each. Prof. Maricris Acido gave the response on behalf of the awardees, stressing that teaching is a beautiful profession. The MacArthur and Josefina Delos Reyes Teaching Awards are given every year to qualified permanent teachers at the College of Education.
UP Educ Students Dominate 1st Teachers’ Education Summit 2015
The participants of the UP College of Education swept the top awards in all three contests they joined in at the First Student Teachers’ Education Summit organized by the Philippine Association for Teacher Education (PAFTE-NCR) held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (Del Pilar Campus) on February 10, 2015. Mara Danica V. Ramos was proclaimed Champion of the EDUCWIZARD (Professional Education Quiz Bee) individual category, while the group of Ericka Jane A. Angeles, Meg Pearl C. Calesterio, Matthew Cyrille A. Ferreras, Alfonso Luis M. Inocencio, and Mara Danica V. Ramos won the group category for the same Quiz Bee. The tandem of Apple Michelle Grace G. Dungao and Ra. Andrea R. Casim were declared Champion for the Education AVP Contest for the said event. Watch their winning AVP here. The event which had the theme, “The Making of Quality Teacher: Ensuring Possibilities” was attended by over a hundred pre-service teachers from several Teacher Education Institutions in the National Capital Region like the University of Sto. Tomas, National Teachers College, Centro Escolar University, and New Era University, among others.

ATCPDE representative attends 34th ASOD in Myanmar
Dr. Rosanelia T. Yangco, OIC Director of the ASEAN Training Center for Preventive Drug Education (ATCPDE), attended the 34th ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters last September 24 to 27, 2013 in Yangon, Myanmar. More
