Two Eduk alumnae, Usec. Dina S. Ocampo and Dr. Barbara Wong-Fernandez, recently received the 2015 UP Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award for Educational Innovation and 2015 UP Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award for Educational Administration respectively on June 20, 2015 at the UP Bahay ng Alumni. The UPAA official website explains that the UPAA Distinguished Alumni Award is conferred to “alumni who have demonstrated, in their chosen field of endeavor, exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions that bring about substantial benefits to society and distinct honor to the University.” Achievements and contributions that impact the community in the local, national, and international level are especially valued. Nominees are evaluated based on their service orientation, leadership, impact of work, and integrity.

Dr. Dina Ocampo is currently the Undersecretary for Programs and Projects of the Department of Education. She earned her BEEd (1985) and master’s degree (1991) at the College of Education where she is also a faculty member and one time Dean (2010-2012). She was one of The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) in 2007 and an awardee of the Search for Outstanding Teacher (SOT) sponsored by Metrobank Foundation (2009).

Dr. Barbara Wong-Fernandez is currently Assistant Vice President for Academic Development and Director of the University Research Center at Far Eastern University (FEU). She earned her MEd in Guidance at the College of Education (1975 ) where she was once a faculty member. Dr. Wong-Fernandez also served as guidance counselor at the UP Integrated School and was Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs in UP Diliman from 1996 to 1999. Prior to moving to FEU, she taught at De La Salle University in 2000 and became Dean of the College of Education from 2003-2007.
